4 Ways to Decorate for the Holidays While Selling Your WDC Home

The Holiday season is fast approaching, and many of us look forward to getting festive and decorating our homes to help spread some joy and light up the dark nights ahead. The holidays can also be a great time to sell your home especially if you decorate in a way to show off your home’s best features. Listed below are 4 ways you can do just this and still enjoy the spirit of the season at home.

Seasonal Touches. You can enhance your exterior curb appeal and stage your home with some seasonal decorative touches. The key is to keep it simple and don’t go overboard. A Wreath on the front door and a couple of winter squashes on a small table says “Welcome” to visitors and encourages them to come inside.
A table or hearth centerpiece with holiday accents will help draw the eye to a focal point such as the dining room or fireplace. If you have stairs, opt for either leaving it empty or twining a slender floral garland only, keep the tinsel garlands in storage this year. If a tree is a must, consider a table-top one or something on the smaller side and place it in the largest room you can so it doesn’t’ take over the space.

Color Schemes. A consistent color scheme in your holiday decorating will help keep things festive yet won’t overwhelm. Variations of greens, reds and browns with touches of orange evoke a cheerful, folk-style, while whites with accents of gold and silver or blue bring a feel of a winter wonderland home. Go with colors which work well with your interior and add a just few touches such as floral centerpieces, pillows and throw blankets. If you opt to stage your dining room set the stage for a holiday dinner; this is the ideal place to let your festive spirit shine.

Light it Up. With longer, darker nights help potential buyers see the amazing features of your house; light it up inside and out. Adding some LED wire strands of lights to window frames and in key places such as along a hallway will add a festive air and lighten up dark spaces. Wire-strand LED lights are so thin they’re discreet even with all the light they give off.

Get festive and bright in your front yard. Just opt to keep the inflatable reindeer put away for this year. There are outdoor LED light strands and solar options available which can be used to highlight some beautiful trees in your yard or your garden gate. Extra light along walk ways and stairs will also make it safer in winter weather.

Follow Your Nose. There’s nothing like the smell of a cozy fire when you walk inside from a stormy day, or the smells of a kitchen full of holiday treats. If you have a fireplace keep a fire lit for showings. Take a few natural ingredients and make your own holiday potpourri. Orange slices, apples, cinnamon sticks and anise pods can be added to a pot with water and simmered on the stove, the cheerful aroma will be enjoyed throughout the house. (Be sure to watch the pot and add water as needed!)
