Accessibility Features Add Safety and Convenience

As the U.S. population ages, homes with accessibility features are becoming increasingly important. Seniors are more frequently opting to age in place, rather than moving to a retirement community, but in doing so, there needs to be planning and forethought put into home renovations that add safety and convenience features as needs change.

The video below is a walk-through of one enterprising woman’s wheelchair accessible home, with some creative and thoughtful ideas for increasing the comfort and livability for aging or differently-abled homeowners.

More and more builders are starting to think about accessibility and flexibility as homeowners age. However, there are millions of homes out there that were built in the last 100 years that may require renovation in order to accommodate  homeowners that require the use of wheelchairs or walkers. Advance planning and thoughtful design will help.
