National Cherry Blossom Festival Signals the Return of Spring in WDC

It began back in 1912 when 3,000 cherry trees were gifted from Japan to our nation’s capital, Washington DC as a gift of friendship. The sheer number of planted cherry trees transformed the face of WDC. This transformation is best witnessed in the early days of spring when the cherry trees bloom. With billions of cherry blossoms turning the very air pink, white and fragrant, it should be no surprise that we have one of the regions’ largest, longest-running events, the National Cherry Blossom Festival.

The WDC area has long had a fascination and respect for Japanese culture, the Cherry Blossom Festival is a month-long opportunity to immerse yourself not only in the staggering beauty of our fruit trees in bloom, but also with the art, culture and entertainment of Japan. Running from March 20th through April 14th, there’s something happening every day within honor of the commemorative gift of Japanese Cherry Trees. Listed below are featured events where you can experience the spirit of this incredible spring festival.

Pink Tie Party March 22nd: The Pink Tie Party is how we celebrate the end of winter and the return of spring. This 21 and over gala is a fundraiser in style and the perfect way to start the festival. With tasty bites to eat and drink, incredible entertainment and plenty of dancing, the evening is highlighted with a silent auction to benefit the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
